1886. pamphlet. Signed pamphlet from his Medical library "W. G. MacCallum" above his stamp-pad imprint, on an 1886 edition of John Noland Mackenzie's "So-called 'Rose Cold' by Means of an Artificial Rose, with Remarks and Historical Notes" from The American Journal of the Medical Sciences. Near fine condition. MacCallum has been highly collected for well over 60 years by the likes of John Hopkins University and other medical institutions, accounting for the scarcity of his material on the market today.<br/><br/> Canadian-American pathologist who wrote the first textbook of Pathology 100 years ago, which is still in print today. He became the first physician to describe the structural and functional relationship between lymphatic system and connective tissue. In 1905 he made the groundbreaking discovery that thyroid and parathyroid glands had completely different functions. He discovered that muscle seizure (tetany) was due to abrogation of parathyroid glands and that when he injected the patient with calcium salt, he restored the condition to normal.<br/><br/>
