Bound in publisher's dark blue cloth over boards, bright silver lettering imprinted on spine. DJ in blue-green w/white and black lettering (front) or white with blue-green and black lettering (back); front also has a Pauline Baynes silver chair illustration.'Second Impression' printed top inside front dj flap. Front pastedown/flyleaf features Baynes' 'Map of the Wild Lands of the North', rear blank. 217 numbered pp, plus three blank following. Many b&w illustrations, all Baynes. Condition notes: A very nice, collectible copy of the rare 1956 British Second Impression published by Geoffrey Bles. Enchanting illustrations by Pauline Baynes. Fourth in the series (in Lewis' original, published, order). Included is the original dustjacket -- not a reproduction, not price-clipped. Binding is slightly 'cocked' off center, and solid. DJ shows significant wear and the beginning of foxing from age. Most noticeably a largish (2"/5cm L by 1"/3cm) chunk was torn loose from lower right front of dj; it has been placed back in its spot, retained in mylar. Several additional chips and tears best understood with photos. General edge-wear. Writing is limited to two instances - first, just under the "Second Impression" text on the front inside flap of the DJ, where '1.85' has been written 1/8"/3mm tall, quite unobtrusive; second, a neat numeral '4' has been written in blue pen (1/4"/6mm tall) on the dj spine below author's name/above the illustration of Puddleglum. Both endpapers show very slight tanning and foxing. Textblock edges are slightly tanned/foxed. The dark blue boards are unfaded, corners lightly bumped, lower spine end rolled under. We seal your book and wrap it in bubble wrap within a box to protect your investment. We personally inspect every book we offer.This one's a keeper.
