Book Condition: Near Fine; two small splash dots on textblock fore edge. DJ: Very Good +; light bumping to tail; superficial scratches to panels. Black cloth boards and spine with bright silver lettering on the spine.Yellow endpapers. 308 pp 8vo oblong. Silver Thorn was a Kiowa artist from the early reservation period and probably was the most prolific Plains Indian artist of all time. His Indian name was Haungooah and he worked in graphite, colored pencil, crayon, pen and ink, and water color on hide, muslin, and paper producing over 1000 illustrations between 1870 and 1920. His was an unparalleled visual record of Kiowa culture, from traditional images of warfare and coup counting, to depictions of the sun dance, early Peyote religion, and domestic daily life. A clean very presentable copy in a Brodart mylar jacket.
