Caldecott’s Reproduced by Edmund Evans The Engraver & Printer & Published by George Routledge & Sons, London & New York, N.D. [1883]. Landscape Roy.8vo, numbered on versos only, wire-stabbed and glued; printed throughout lithographically in sepia, the rectos apart from the title-page in colours; pp.48; half leaf-green smooth cloth, unbleached linen sides, the front cover blocked with lettering and design in dark brown.Slight rusting of staples; three leaves with small marginal tears, two of them a trifle dusty ans with vertical creases; otherwise a nice copy. One of Routledge’s more curious experiments. One would have expected the staples to have passed through all the leaves, but each gathering appears to have been separately stapled, and the three glued together at the spine. An uncommon and rather beautiful volume. Henry Blackburn, ‘Randolph Caldecott’, p.205. All books listed by Robert Temple are first editions unless otherwise stated.
