Synopsis
ADI DA SAMRAJ was born on Long Island, NY, and graduated from Columbia University in 1961 with a BA in philosophy. He went on to recieve an MA in English literature from Stanford University. By 1964 Adi Da Samraj had begun a period of intensive practice under succession of spiritual masters in the United States and India. Simaltaneously he was producing drawings, paintings, and sculptural forms and had begun the creation of a large body of spiritual writings, now numbering over 60 published books. Art Critic DONALD KUSPIT is a professor of art history and philosophy at the State University of New York Stony Brook. He is a contributing editor at Artforum , Sculpture , and New Art Examiner magazines, and is the editor of Art Criticism . in 1997 he recieved the Lifetime Achievement award for Distinguished Contribution to Visual Arts from the nation association of Schools of Art and Design. He has published numerous books on contemporary art, most recently Mel Ramos Pop Art Fantasies: The Complete Paintings (2004).
