Rochester, New York: Printed and Published by E. Peck & Co, 1823. First American edition thus, expanded edition with new material, including a speech "Published in No Other Edition.". 8vo. Contemporary engraved lending library bookplate on front pastedown (no other library markings). Owner's contemporary 14-line ink inscription on rear flyleaf (in brown ink). Spine and extremities of the binding are moderately rubbed, narrow chip on spine label, thin surface chip on front cover, few pages of text are moderately foxed, lower corner margin of one page of text is chipped (circa one inch by two inches, with no loss of text), else a very good copy. First American edition thus, expanded edition with new material, including a speech "Published in No Other Edition." 8vo. Charles Phillips (1789-1859) was an Irish barrister, born in County Sligo. In addition to his published speeches, he was also the author of volumes of both poetry and prose. He also played an active role in advocating Roman Catholic emancipation in Ireland. Robert Emmett (1778-1803) was an Irish revolutionary, born in Dublin, and was a student member of the United Irishmen.
