Based on the 1947 play by Tennessee Williams, who collaborated with screenwriter Oscar Saul and director Elia Kazan on the screenplay. Kazan, who also directed the Broadway stage production, cast all the actors from that production with the exception of Jessica Tandy. Nominated for eleven Academy Awards, winning four, including Best Actress for Vivien Leigh.

Synopsis
A Streetcar Named Desire is a play written by Tennessee Williams that opened on Broadway on December 3, 1947.The story dramatises the life of Blanche DuBois, a Southern belle, after going through a series of personal losses, leaves her aristocratic background seeking refuge with her sister and brother-in-law in a New Orleans apartment building. Considered to be Williams’ most popular work, it is one of the best and most critically successful plays of the 20th century. The play has inspired many adaptations in other forms, notably producing an acclaimed film that was released in 1951.
