About This Item

New York: Rizzoli International Publications, Inc., 1986. First Edition. . Hardcover. Fine/Near Fine. Duncan, a Marine combat photographer in World War II and the Korean War, was known for his stand against the Vietnam War and also for his friendship with and photography of Pablo Picasso. In this book, Duncan celebrated Van Gogh and sunflowers. The eleven known paintings of sunflowers by Van Gogh are reproduced here together in full color for the first time as Duncan uses his own considerable talent in an appreciation for an artist, his paintings and the flowers themselves. First Printing, First Edition. About 9 1/4 x 12 inches, 148 pages in yellow-gold cloth-covered boards with gold lettering on front cover and spine. Well over a hundred full color, full page photos of Van Gogh's paintings and Duncan's photos of the French countryside and sunflowers. The dustjacket shows a full color photo of a sunflower on the front panel, apparently a detail of the smaller photo of a field of sunflowers on the back panel against a yellow background with quotes from Van Gogh above and below the photo. Boards and text are complete (including laid-in errata note for pages 146-7), clean and unmarked, very nearly perfect. The dustjacket shows only very minor wear at spine ends and perhaps a touch of soiling along spine, no tears, no chipping or creasing. A collectable copy documenting a photographer's odyssey among the sunflowers in France's countryside. [Due to the size and weight of the book, priority/express orders and orders from outside the U.S. will require additional postage.]
