Reykjavik, Iceland: Almenna Bokafeglagid, 1966. Published 1966. Dramatic images of the birth of the tiny volcanic island of Surtsey, off the coast of Iceland. Describes the geological forces involved in the creation of this new land, including a history of volcanic activity in and around Iceland. Red cloth lettered in gilt, 47 pages of text plus 56 plates, most in color, illustrated dustjacket. Postcard with an aerial view of the new island is laid in loosely at the front. The book has almost no wear, good hinges, sound text block, clean pages with a gift inscription on the front free endpaper but no other markings. The mylar protected dustjacket has a closed tear and some tiny chips, very little paper loss.. Hard Cover. Very Good/Very Good. Oblong 8vo.
