New York: Grosset & Dunlap, 1924. first thus. Hardcover. very good/good. J. Allen St. John. First Grosset and Dunlap reprinting of McClurg original. Very good book in good dust jacket. Jacket has some age toning, and chipping at top and bottom of spine, with some loss (Tarzan's name is half gone); and some closed tears; now in new removable protective cover. Bound in red cloth with black print on the front and spine. Pages are clean and unmarked, off-white. Includes eight full page black-and-white illustations on glossy paper by J. Allen St. John, all present. Identified as first printing because some of the page numbers listed on the illustrations page incorrect. They are correct for the original McClurg printing, but Grosset and Dunlap put them elsewhere. The page numbers were corrected for the second printing and onward. Grosset and Dunlap hard cover with dust jacket, first Grosset and Dunlap edition, first printing 1924. 333 numbered pages, cover art and illustrations by J. Allen St. John. 12mo (5"" x 7.5"") From the estate of noted science fiction writer and editor Mike Resnick - receipt included. Nineth in the Tarzan series, preceded by Tarzan the Terrible and followed by Tarzan and the Ant Men. Originally published as a seven part serial in Argosy All-Story Weekly from Dec. 9, 1922 to January 20, 1923. The first book edition was a March 24, 1923 edition by A. C. McClurg. This item dated by refererring to Robert R. Zeuchner's Edgar Rice Burroughs bibliography.
