First edition June 1964 (stated). 236 pages, 8 black and white illustrations by Reed Crandall. 8vo (5.5" x 8.25") This Tarzan novel was written during January and February 1940, but never published in magazine form. When it was finally collected and posthumously published in hardback, it became the author's 63rd book. This is the 23rd Tarzan book, preceded by Tarzan and "The Foreign Legion," and followed by Tarzan and the Castaways (a story collection). This book will ship with signature confirmation.
Synopsis
Tarzan and the Madman is a novel written by Edgar Rice Burroughs, the twenty-third in his series of books about the title character Tarzan. Written from January-February, 1940, the story was never published in Burroughs' lifetime. It was first published in hardcover by Canaveral Press in June, 1964, and in paperback by Ballantine Books in February, 1965.
