About This Item

Koln: Taschen, 2013. Hardcover. Fine. Facsimile of a work originally issued in parts from 1799 to 1807 by Robert John Thornton [1768-1837], an English physician and botanical writer. The plates in the Temple of Flora are remarkable. The images are works of art that used multiple intaglio techniques, the flowers always the center of attention, but with dreamy landscapes behind describing the habitat of the plant.

Folio, 16 3/4 x 13 3/4", 104pp. Publishers green boards with embossed image of the "Bird of Paradise" with text in orange and white. Slight mark near "F" in Flora on front, otherwise immaculate. With an Essay and Descriptions of Plates by Werner Dressendorfer. Text in English, French, Spanish & German. Color and b&w illustratons. No box.
