1860. Unique. Pictorial hardcover, stamped in black. Good. [Ca. 60]p, 56 mounted plates. Covers very slightly loose; occasional closed marginal tears; rear endpaper soiled; last leaf loose and one leaf possibly removed from the end; back cover rubbed and stained). Back cover blind-stamped with what looks like Pat.Marchissi (manufacturer of the album?). Number stamped on inside back cover (a control or inventory number?). With infinite care, a 19th-century reader cut out these illustrations from unknown sources and mounted them one to a page. They show sentimental scenes of familes, pets, children at play, farm life, sweethearts, etc. Some seem non-specific, while two are from "Little Red Riding Hood" and others probably also illustrate stories or poems. A very engaging scrapbook.

Two extraordinary hand-crafted parade banners, ca. 110" x 84" (9 feet x 7 feet), one slightly smaller. Each entirely composed of hook-work with colored yarns on white muslin backing. Slight age-toning and soil; a few threads loose but no significant losses; Near Fine condition overall. Folded and stored in original velvet draw-string carrying bags, as found. Both banners bear the inscription "Chairman Mao Reviewing the Great Army of the Cultural Revolution," and depict the August, 1966 mass rally at Tiananmen Gate, where more than 10 million Red Guards from all over China converged to express their solidarity with Mao and his second-in-command, Lin Biao. Additional text on the lower banner reads "Long Live Chairman Mao for ten thousand years" and "Sailing in the ocean requires a helmsman" -- both quotes from Lin Biao. Felix Moses of Kentucky served in the Confederate States Army during the Civil War.
