Cambridge, Massachusetts: Privately Printed by Charles B. Wood III, 1997. Small folio. 25 leaves of text (printed on rectos only) and 7 etchings by Gordon Allen, each signed and numbered. Numbered and signed by David Ledlie (the author of the introduction), Darrell Hyder (the printer) and Charles B. Wood III (the publisher). With prospectus and related material laid in. Publisher's morocco backed blue decorated pastepaper boards, bound by Gray Parrot. Burgundy cloth folding box.

The text by Dean Sage, first published as an essay in the Atlantic Monthly in 1875, described the author's first trip to the Restigouche River in New Brunswick, Canada. For this first separate edition, Darrell Hyder of The Sun Hill Press was commissioned to design and print the book in Monotype Baskerville letterpress in a folio format on French Rives heavyweight paper; Gordon Allen created and printed seven etchings to illustrate the book; and the work opens with an historical introduction by David Ledlie, an authority on the history of salmon fishing. Of the 55 copies, 48 were for sale.
