About This Item

New York, New York: A. S. Barnes and Company, 1875. First Edition. . Hardcover. Very Good/None Present. VG/0/1st ed. After the conclusion of the Civil War, there was a demand for improved farming methods throughout the southern region. Most of the Agricultural information previously used in the South was based on European research, most of which were not adaptable to the southern soil and climate. The University of Georgia established a small experimental reseach farm in1873, run by a Professor of Chemistry at the University, E. M. Pendleton. Two years later Professor Pendleton published this book, written for the Agricultural students at the Unversity of Georgia, one of the very first such textbook published in the United States. Book Condition is Very Good; clean with firm hand tied binding and orignal leather covering on spine with title and author's name in gilt lettering. Some cracking and rubbing to leather. 419pp. Endpapers and pastedowns are agricultral advertisements. Wear to boards, especially at heel corners boards become visable with some spots of discoloration. Marbled page edges. Interior is clean and unmarked, with a very occasional spot of foxing. Handled carefully, this could be a wonderful addition of a Georgiana Collection. Comes to you in an acid free document bag.
