About This Item
New Haven: Gray & Hewitt, 1822. 35pp, bound in modern plain wrappers. Margins and edges brittle, lightly foxed. Good+.
This rare item protests judicial foreclosure proceedings on a piece of real estate in Litchfield County, Connecticut. "It may be in the power of Courts to discard every rule of evidence, and every principle of law. Deplorable, however, is that system of jurisprudence, which, through the agency of overbearing, and as the case may be, unprincipled talents, is liable to be stranded on the shoals of unyielding prepossession, or engulphed in the vortex of oppression and misrule." OCLC says that, "The publication of this pamphlet led to the suit of Dunning against Hillhouse for libel."
FIRST EDITION. AI 9011 [1- Yale]. OCLC 45569477 [3- Yale, Yale Law, Social Law Lib.] as of March 2023. Not in Sabin, Harv. Law Cat., Marvin, Marke, Eberstadt, Cohen.
