About This Item

London: John Murray, 1919. Unclipped dustwrapper (original price of 12/- on spine) has creasing and tears to edges, particularly a 2.5 inch tear at bottom right of spine and a smaller one-inch tear to opposite side, also a little bit missing at top end and at bottom right of same. Slight bumping to spine ends of gray boards with decoration on front board showing a soldier and a palm tree. A previous (original?) owner's name on f/ep, some yellowing to the pages, a small tear to top corner of map on page 86 (Frontier to Morogoro) where it is fixed to the pages, but with no damage to the printing on the map itself, and no damage to the two smaller maps on pp124 and 172. Otherwise a good clean tight copy of this first edition of this hard-cover book. Deals with the author's wartime service in the German East Africa campaign from 1915-18. He served in the 25th Battalion Royal Fusiliers (''Legion of Frontiersmen''). 247pp, 8 b&w ilustrations, 3 maps.. First Edition. Hard Cover. Good/Fair. 8vo - over 7¾" - 9¾" tall.
