London: Collins, 1968. Hardcover. Very good. Owners inscription.. 4to - over 9¾" - 12" tall. A rare first impression of the first edition hardback of this well-loved classic children's book. There is an ink pen inscription to the front endpapers dated November 1968. Cream boards illustrated in full colour front and back by Judith Kerr and Kerr's wonderful illustrations feature throughout the book. The spine and corners are slightly bumped and the the binding is partially loose between two of the pages. Slight partial cracking on hinge, between front cover and end paper. No dust jacket. Synopsis
Judith Kerr was born in Berlin in 1923, but escaped from Hitler’s Germany with her family and eventually settled in England. She worked as an artist and BBC television scriptwriter before becoming a full-time author and illustrator of children’s books, including WHEN WILLY WENT TO THE WEDDING, WHEN HITLER STOLE PINK RABBIT, and the best-selling THE TIGER WHO CAME TO TEA. She lives in England.
