About This Item

Routledge & Kegan Paul, London, 1969. First Edition. Hardcover (Original Cloth). Very Good Condition/Good. Preface by author and bibliographical note. Light blue coloured cloth covered boards with silver coloured titles to the back strip. Photographic dustwrapper with black and white coloured titles to the front panel and back strip. Quoting from the front fold over panel blurb " ... The uniquely moving aspect of this book is that the author writes with twin qualifications as historian and survivor from the camps. He is Reader in History at the University of Adelaide, and he has a right as an historian to analyse the growth of Nazism. As one who went through the camps, he has a right also, after much intellectual struggle, to forgive what he finds because he now knows it to have been inevitable. Mr Phillips describes the many factors which atomised German society from 1870 onwards and thus assisted Nazi evil, and he shows that Hitler and Nazism were mere phenomena of a mass age." Rubbing of the book corners with softening of the back strip edges. Age toning of the text block edges and pages; with, a few foxing spots to the text block edges. Chipping of the top dustwrapper corners and back strip edges. Creasing of the top edge with rubbing and handling marks to the dustwrapper panels. Rubbing either side of the back strip.
