Rare travel report of the visit of Tsar Peter the Great in The Netheerlands in 1697 (on the title page the date is printed 1797 but corrected in pencil) and 1717. Dedicated to Admiral Jan Hendrik van Kinsbergen. After the history of Russia and the Dutch - Russian relations, the visit of Peter in 1697 is given into account. About the visit to Nicolaas Witsen, the wharf of the Dutch East India Company (VOC) and the famous collections of Frederik Ruysch, Jacob de Wilde, Levinus Vincent and Simon Schijnvoet. During the second visit he bought art at Albertus Seba, Frederik Ruysch and Levinus Vincent. With two illustrations: Het huisje van Czaar Peter te Zaandam, made by J.E. Marcus, sculp. 1814 and Peter de Grote op de werf van de O.I. maatschappij (VOC) te Amsterdam.Mr. Jacobus Scheltema was a Ridder der Orde van den Nederlandschen Leeuw and Lid van het Koninklijke Instituut en andere Maatschappijen van Wetenschap.With among other things: Reis van Riga naar Emmerik, Zaandam, inhaling in Amsterdam, Nieuwe betrekkingen met burgemeester Witsen, het spiegelgevecht en de zeilpartij op het Ij, Bezoek bij Koning Wille, te Utrecht, In kennis met Gilles Schey en Cornelis Cruys, Reis naar Texel, bezoek van de groenlandsvaarders te Zaandam, Peter in Den Haag, uitstap naar Delft en Leyden, Reis naar Engeland, eerste reis naar Woronesch, Nieuwe betrekkingen met Cornelis Calf.
