Dublin: Messrs Price, Sleator, Watson et al., 1784. Irish pirated edition. Pamphlet. Good condition. An early Ulster County NY association of a pirated Irish edition of Goldsmith's work. The previous owner signatures add a wonderful provenance. The names include Miss Maria Graham, New Hurley; Chichester Brown (his book March 14th ---; Miss Jemima Graham Bruyn, Shawangunk. Chichester Brown (1783 - 1849) was the son of John Brown who fled Ireland during the 1798 rebellion. The family settled in Newburgh NY where Chichester studied medicine under Dr. George Graham and married his daughter. He set up his practice in Newburgh in 1808 and continued serving his patients till his death.
12mo, 24pp. Original plain grey paper wrappers chipped, hand-sewn binding. Closed short tear on dedication page. The former owner signatures are on the front and back cover as well as the title and half title pages. Rare; OCLC records no physical copies in research libraries, citing only Internet Resource or Microform editions. Wonderful Hudson Valley provenance.
