Macmillan and co. Limited. London. 1930. FIRST EDITION. Two Volumes. 8vo. (8.7 x 5.7 inches). Internally a clean, bright and tight set in the publishers original dark blue cloth. The scarce original dustwrapper is present on volume one only. -- This wrapper is darkened, particularly to the spine, and has had some repairs and strengthening to the rear, using brown paper tape of the same colour, which could be removed without too much trouble if required. -- Blue cloth boards with double blind rules to top and bottom. Spines ruled and lettered in gilt. Some light fading to the spine of volume two. Overall a nice presentation of this important work.

Complete set of this famous trilogy, with 80 fine hand-coloured, full page, aquatint plates, the colouring still strong and bright, by Thomas Rowlandson. Decorative blind stamped panels on boards. Original yellow coated endpapers. Previous owners bookplates to front paste downe endpapers. Some rubbing to top and tail of spines and fore-edges, and a couple of the hinges with neatly repaired splits (about 1.5 inches) but generally these are very good examples. Complete with 21 fine full page wood cut engravings showing Aufseeser's remarkable Modernist style, akin to a tapestry pattern using puzzle shapes to form the image. A bright, tight near fine copy in publishers grey paper covered boards with black line illustration and lettering to front board, the rear left plain. Grey cloth spine with minor rubbing and wear to top and bottom. Neat two line inscription on front blank endpaper but overall a lovely example of this, the artist's very rare first book.
