Description:
Paris: Philippe-Denys Pierres, 1782. First Edition . Hardcover. Very Good+. Hardcover 1st, a very nice copy in contemporary leather. Mottled leather with triple-rule border, dentelles, marbled endpapers, edges gilted over red stain, giving a coppery effect. All text pages are bright, straight and clean. The gilted edges are a bit dulled, as is the gilt-stamped spine. Corners bumped and worn; there is a gilt rule on the very edge of the boards, and it is rubbed or broken in numerous places. Overall vg+ despite the wear on the binding. Engraved frontis and title vignette; different from the vignette in the Valade-Cazin edition published later the same year. A poem outlining the author's philosophy of outdoor design, this book was terribly popular and went through many printings and translations very quickly. It was a major influence on British garden design which can still be detected today. 143 pp. French text.

Pall-Mall, York Street, Strand and Fenchurch Stree: J. Dodsley; S. Baker, G.Leigh et al, 1768. Small octavo, pp (2), 123, a little age-toned but otherwise extremely clean and sound internally, bound in a recent qurter calf and marbled boards with red leather lettering piece on the spine. Armorial bookplate of The Earl of Harrowby. The upper board is a little bowed, but this detracts only a little from a very bright copy indeed. RARE. [Blanche Henrey 1437. De Combles wrote the original anonymously in 1745, when it was the first work on the subject in France. The English edition is also anonymous and Henrey speculates that of the various booksellers mentioned on the title page, "J. Gordon, seedsman, Fenchurch Street" may well have suggested publication if indeed he wasn't the translator.]. First English edition. Quarter calf and boards. Very Good.

Hirmer Publishers, 2015. 1st. 9 Paperbacks in Solander case. Fine. Fine. 9 books in Solander case. Only leafed through once. Books like new, some smudges on the outside of the Solander box, Ships from Hawaii. Weight For gardeners, Ireland's Roaring Water Bay, in West Cork, is a paradise: buoyed by the Gulf Stream and long hours of sunshine, its micro-climate permits unique plants―even palm trees―to grow and thrive there. And the past twenty years have seen the slow creation of a true masterpiece of "wild gardening" in the area: Glenkeen Garden, designed by Ulrike Crespo and Michael Satke. This book brings five photographers together to document the growth and development of the garden, each bringing to the project his own personal viewpoint. The result, a stunning and limited edition boxed set featuring several fold-outs, will enchant garden lovers with its images of luxuriant vegetation, innovative landscape architecture―including copses, avenues, and ponds―and inviting bridges and garden…

Captain Nicolas Baudin's early 19th-century voyage of scientific discovery to Australia is a little-known event in French and Australian history. Departing Le Havre in 1800, Baudin's expedition comprised two ships--the Naturaliste and the Géographe--and 238 men, including 22 scientists.
