First American edition/later printing, in Fine, seemingly unread condition, in Good+ dust-jacket with chip to spine head. From the collection of Betty Anderson, legendary art director of publisher Knopf in the late 20th century as evidenced by her (small and unobtrusive) inventory number on front paste down; Translated from the original French publication of 1949, "La mort dans l'âme" by Gerard Hopkins. It is the third in the "Les chemins de la liberté" , The Roads to Freedom series. Intended as a tetralogy, it was left incomplete with only three volumes published. Sartre was awarded the Nobel Prize in 1964, but declined to accept itv; 8vo; [vi], 421, [3] pages; FSA .

Synopsis

Troubled Sleep (or La mort dans l'âme, in the original French) is a 1949 novel by Jean-Paul Sartre. The book was originally translated as Iron in the Soul. It is the third part in the trilogy Les chemins de la liberté (The Roads to Freedom).
