A Newly-Discovered Method for attaining Results, without having recourse to a Multiplicity of Figures, and thereby reducing to a Minimum the Possibility of Errors in a variety of calculations made daily in the interest of Railroads, Steamship Lines, Merchants, Bankers and Manufacturers, and proving upon trial a desirable help to all having the duties of an Accountant to perform." 67 p.: tables; 24 cm. Black cloth with gilt-stamped cover title: Tucker's Compendium. Grey endpapers. Title page verso indicates that this is copy number 150, signed "S. J. Tucker." Former owner's inscription on front free endpaper: "J. E. Kantner Nov 28th 1886 Richmond, Va." Little is known about Sylvester J. Tucker, who filed patents in 1878 for a new and improved revenue register, and in 1884 for a percentage calculator. Only two copies of Tucker's Compendium of Rapid Calculations are listed in WorldCat. Very scarce. In Good- Condition: lacking cloth over spine and from front cover along spine; edges are rubbed; cloth is slightly rubbed and soiled; front hinge weak; 2nd leaf (pages 3 and 4) detached but present; otherwise, clean and solid.
