About This Item
London : Nonesuch Press, 1926. First edition. Cloth. Near Fine/Fine. 9.5" by 6". None. The first edition of George Moore's novel Ulick and Soracha. Limited edition, number 637 of 1250 copies printed on japon vellum for the Nonesuch Press. With scarce original dustwrapper in a complete and fine condition. Direct from the library of the late Hugh Selbourne MD (1906-1973) a noted book collector and diarist. Signed by the author to the verso of the limited edition page. The Nonesuch Press specialised in limited edition and private press. They were unusual among private presses as they used a small Albion press to design the books, but had them printed by commercial printers. In doing so, books with the quality of a fine-press were produced, but available to a wider audience at lower prices. This is the first edition of this work by George Moore. Moore was an Irish novelist, short-story writer, poet, memoirist and dramatist. In original fawn coloured cloth with the original printed wrap. Externally, excellent with minor bumping to the extremities and to the head and tail of spine. The wrap is also in excellent condition with some handling marks and the occasional spot. Internally, the text is firmly bound. Pages are slightly age toned to the edges but very clean throughout. Near Fine
