Small spot to the top of the front board is the only mark to the boards. Biographies and descriptions of paintings. Numerous black and white examples of artworks. Nice clean condition, with some age toning and moderate darkening to the page edges. Thomas Patrick Bodkin (1887–1961) was an Irish lawyer, art historian, art collector and curator. Bodkin was Director of the National Gallery of Ireland. 236 pages. 210 x 170 mm (8¼ x 6¾ inches).

Half title, frontis illustration and title with vignette. Good clean condition. A little darkening / marking to the boards. Internally clean. 64 pages. 235 by 190mm (9¼ by 7½ inches).

Cambridge: R. Walker & T. James, 1745. Two Volumes, first thus. This is the two volume re-issue of this work by Walker, in 1745. It was longer than the earlier edition (extending to 1234 pages rather than 1109), but it was not issued with the engravings. This copy conforms to ESTC T154531 with pages up to Y4 the same as the earlier issue, those after differing. In this copy, Y4 is not a cancel. Half contemporary leather bindings, with marbled boards (now significantly faded) gilt volume number but no titles to each spine. Leather is a little cracked, but binding is holding well. Vol. 1 has a modern cutting with a portrait of Cromwell pasted to the inside front board. Title page is a little darkened. Rest of the work is in good clean condition, with a few pages a little dirty. To volume II, the rear paste down is covered in pencil page references. The last text page has a repaired tear, with a corner of loss (not affecting text.). (viii) 1-716, 721-1234. pp. 110 by 170mm (4¼ by 6¾ inches).

Each of the nine colour plates with its own tissue guard. Corners of boards rubbed and slight sun fading to boards. Hinge slightly weak but holding. (This has been reinforced with archival tape to the inside rear hinge). Text in Dutch. 350 x 270 mm (13¾ x 10¾ inches). Rare publication of theater decorations by the Dutch artist François-Joseph PfeifferJr. (Liège 1778-1835). Illustrated with 9 lithograph plates (including portrait) with facing tissue guards. With accompanying letter-press text within red ornamental borders. Contains a biography by Gerit van Ernst Koning (1794-1853), and verse descriptions by J. van Lennep (1802-1868). It also includes a short list of theater scenes created by Pfeiffer.
