William Warren Bradley (born July 28, 1943) is an American politician and former professional basketball player. He served three terms as a Democratic U.S. Senator from New Jersey. He ran unsuccessfully for the Democratic Party's nomination for president in the 2000 election. Bradley excelled at basketball from an early age. He attended Princeton University. He earned a gold medal as a member of the 1964 Olympic basketball team and was the NCAA Player of the Year in 1965. He spent his entire ten-year professional basketball career playing for the Knicks, winning two championship titles. Bradley is the author of seven non-fiction books. In 2008 Bradley was inducted into the New Jersey Hall of Fame. Values of the Game is an ideal book to understand Bill Bradley. The values that Bill speaks of so frequently are reflected in Values of the Game--responsibility, discipline, passion, selflessness and respect. Bill Bradley returns to his first great passion, basketball. What separates winners and losers remains very much the same: No team can succeed unless it shares common values, among them courage, discipline, resilience, respect, and a passion for the game. Bradley offers his vision for how these values can be applied to everyday life, be it at the office, at home, in public life--indeed, in any situation where values matter. In ten essays, Bradley revisits the basketball court with the fire of the competitor and explores the dynamics of teammates, the individual courage to risk the last-second shot, the responsibility to teammates, coaches, and fans to play hard and honor the game. This book is one man's vision for a better world, and is a lasting statement of principle from one of our country's finest leaders.
