London: Longmans Green and co, 1960 1st English edition printed the same year as the American one but in a much smaller printing of 3500 copies. O'Connors third book and second novel. Orange boards slightly bumped at spine ends and slightly bruised to corners, light pencil note to fep from original bookseller. Dust jacket is complete and unclipped, a small ding to the spine does not break the surface of the paper, very minor light rubbing at the top of the spine, tiny 4mm split at tail of spine at joint. white parts of the jacket show light dust soiling, a very nice copy. SCARCE. First Edition. Hard Cover. Very Good/Very Good. 8vo - over 7? - 9? tall.

Synopsis

The Violent Bear It Away is a novel published in 1960 by American author Flannery O'Connor. It is the second and final novel that she published. The first chapter of the novel was published as the story "You Can't Be Any Poorer Than Dead," in the journal New World Writing, volume 8 in October 1955. It is the story of Francis Tarwater, a fourteen-year-old boy who is trying to escape his destiny: the life of a prophet.
