About This Item
Viking, London, 1990. First Edition. Hardcover. Very Good Condition/Good. Illustrator: various. List of illustrations, author's note, family tree, bibliography and index. The text is illustrated with 4 sections of reproductions of black-and-white artwork and maps and colour reproductions of similar. Tan coloured boards with black coloured titles to the back strip. Illustrated dustwrapper with white coloured titles to the front panel and pale gold and white coloured titles to the back strip. The author's study is not an addition to the large number of books about Elizabeth I, offering merely a biography, for this is a detailed, revealing and clear-sighted portrait of an extraordinary woman, by turns courageous and determined, gracious and violently cantankerous, kind and spiteful, sensitive and coarse, realistic yet grotesquely vain etc. Softening of the back strip edges with rubbing of the book corners. Light age toning of the text block edges and pages. Previous owners' sticker to the top right hand corner of the free front end page. Creasing of the top dustwrapper edge with a little rubbing of the panels. Full number line. Size: 8vo - over 7¾" - 9¾" tall. (14), 288 pages,. Please refer to accompanying picture (s).
