Boston, MA: Houghton Mifflin, 1897. 911pp w/ 2 steel portraits, 1 tinted lithograph, numerous illus & maps, and 1 fold-out map in rear. This is the one volume edition. Author was lieutenant-commander U.S.N., and commander of the polar expedition of 1879-1881. Details the ill-fated voyage of the USS Jeannetee, an early expedition up the coast of Alaska and Siberia into the Artic Sea. Ultimately, the ice flows of the Artic Sea caused the ship to sink and the survivors to make their way to Siberia. De Long was killed in in the course of the expedition. Tight wth some light foxing. Marked only on title page and remnants of card holder inside front cover. Overall clean.. Quarter Leather/Boards. Very Good+/No Jacket - Issued. 8vo - over 7¾" - 9¾" tall. Ex-Library.
