1805 1st LOUISIANA Voyages on Missouri River Perrin du Lac INDIANS Fur Trade
'Voyage Dans le Deux Louisianes' is one of the most important early accounts of voyages on the Missouri River. Written by Francois Marie Perrin du Lac, this work describes fur trading with Native American Indians and is an excellent source for providing information on the various tribes that lived in South Dakota and along the Missouri River.
Field's entry on this book is extensive and descriptive:
"The author has entirely devoted to the narration of his observations on the Indians, then inhabiting the territory he visited. 'Life of George Augustus Bowels, an Englishman, who abandoned civilization to become chief of the Creek Nation (ch. 52). The life of this worthy was printed in a small duodecimo volume, in England wither he had gone to negotiate some treaty for his tribe. The volume contains the narration of the personal experience of a traveler whose curiosity was not sated with what he saw, but who sought from books the particulars he did not himself observe, and thus fills out the form of which he himself observed but the mere outlines."
From Howes:
"Important for details concerning the early fur trade with the Indians on the upper Missouri."
