Italian Regal Maroon leather imprinted in gold. 60-lb. acid-free, museum-grade paper. End papers are antiquated facsimile reproductions of actual pages of Brown's handwritten logbooks. No dust wrapper, as issued. 410 pp. Numbered copy card laid in. All three of Brown's hazardous global whaling voyages of 1841 to 1847 appear in the journals which appear herein. More than 500 sketches from Brown's logbooks also appear here, exactly as he drew them at sea. In addition, many recently-unearthed photos and documents appear here for the first time. The Captain, his family, and the people of his heritage community of Orient and of Long Island come alive and appear in specially added chapters in this book about a rich and important part of America's heritage. Includes indices of persons, places, and ships; a glossary, and a list of whaling museums.
