Cincinnati: Published by the author Book. Good. Soft cover. ca 1858, pp85-108. Removed from a damaged copy of ADVENTURES AND ACHIEVEMENTS OF AMERICANS. A SERIES OF NARRATIVES ILLUSTRATING THEIR HEROISM, SELF-RELIANCE, GENIUS AND ENTERPRISE, edited by Henry Howe. Occasional light foxing, else G. In report covers. Ledyard, born in Groton, CT, (1751-1789), was an explorer, adventurer, and world traveler. He joined Capt. Cook's third voyage, and wrote a book about those experiences. He also planned an expedition across Russia, over the Bering Strait, and eastward, all the way to Virginia, but was arrested and returned to Moscow. Later, he turned his attention to Africa, but poisoned himself, accidentally, before a proposed expedition from the Red Sea to the Atlantic, could get under way, dying in Cairo..
