Presentation Copy warmly inscribed by the author, " To ... My old Sea Bag Buddy & Lifetime Friend..." in 2010. Murray came of age in the Navy during the Kennedy Administratioin and the Cuban Missile Crisis. This is a tell-all acccount. A bootleg beautician in her hometown, Cherilyn Adams is the only black girl in her class of new recruits at the Bainbridge Maryland Naval Training Station. She's patriotic, loves the military, but has problems taking orders. She is determined to be the best she can be while training to become a Navy Wave. Cheri and the eighty-six other women from all walks of life and from all parts of the United States are forced to work, play, and live together under the same roof twenty-four-seven. During both the trials and tribulations of military life, the young women learn to rely on each other while enjoying freedom, for the first time in their young lives, from parental supervision. Sharing their shenanigans, romantic dalliances, and heartaches, this group of strangers becomes lifelong friends.

About Thomas J. Joyce And Company

Joyce And Company has been in business as a professional rare bookseller and appraiser since 1975. Owner Thomas Joyce was the regular book appraiser on Home & Garden TV\'s \"The Appraisal Fair\\\" program, on international broadcasts. Thomas Joyce was the co-discoverer of George Washington's personal copy of William Leybourn's 1679 edition of THE COMPLEAT SURVEYOR, from which young Washington learned some of his surveying skills at age 16. The book had vanished for nearly a century until its re-discovery in 2017. It is now back at Mt. Vernon.
