About This Item

New York: Charles Scribner's Sons, 1913. Originally published in May, 1911, this reprint from December, 1913, is in Near-Fine condition and is particularly unique in that it is the only copy I could currently find online that still has its original dust jacket. See photo. The dust jacket does show wear, having some chips and tears and is missing the front interior flap. Nonetheless, it has protected the book well over the last century. I have placed it into a Brodart protective sleeve. Noted traveler Price Collier gives a perceptive view of India and the problems it faced in the early Twentieth Century, including the conflicts of religion and caste among the natives, as well as "the chains of subordination" faced under British rule. Although the bulk of the book is concerned with India, the author also gives his insightful views of China, Japan, and Korea. The book has deep blue cloth covers with die-stamped gilt spine lettering. The book measures 5 1/2 by 8 1/4 inches and includes 534 bright and sparkling pages.. Hard Cover. Fine/Fair. 8vo - over 7¾" - 9¾" tall.
