(New York): Harper & Row, 1963. Hardcover. Fine/Fine. First edition. Oblong quarto. [48]pp. Pictorial cloth. The pictorial jacket has "Net $3.79" price on lower front flap (conforming to correct first issue publisher's price for the library issue) and with publisher's correct first issue printed code on lower front flap ("40-80/ 1163"). The front flap of dust jacket prints two reviews and rear flap is headed "Winner of the 1964 Caldecott Award", both issue points which indicate a second issue dust jacket. Also has "The Caldecott Medal" gold foil label on front panel (second issue), and with "Harper Crest" publisher's gold foil label on spine (as issued for the library issue). Owner's ink name on front flyleaf else a fine, bright copy in second issue dust jacket, with two short tears, and one tiny nick, else the jacket is fresh and bright.

Synopsis

Where the Wild Things Are is a 1963 children's picture book by American writer and illustrator Maurice Sendak, originally published by Harper & Row. The book has been adapted into other media several times, including an animated short, a 1980 opera, and, in 2009, a live-action feature film adaptation. According to HarperCollins, the book has sold over 19 million copies worldwide as of 2008.
