About This Item
Book is signed by author on title page. Date on copyright page is 1943, but Harcourt, Brace & World was only known as such from 1960-1970, so this book is from that time frame. Book is in Good- condition, with light edgewear to cover boards, bit of soiling to front cover boards. Some foxing in endpapers. Pen notes and underlining throughout pages. Prior owner name written on front pastedown. Dust jacket is in Fair condition, with open tears at front top spine corner and front edge corners, general edgewear and chipping, some smudges on rear of jacket. Now in Brodart dust jacket protector.
Synopsis
These eight stories reveal the singular imaginative power of one of America's most admired writers. Set in the Old Natchez Trace region, the stories dip in and out of history and range from virgin wilderness to a bar in New Orleans. In each story, Miss Welty sustains the high level of performance that, throughout her distinguished career, has won her numerous literary awards. "Miss Welty runs a photofinish with the finest prose artists of her time" (Time).
