The Primrose Edition, No. 488 of 999 sets; limitation page designed by Dwiggins and SIGNED by the editor, Robert Arnot, in Volume I. A very handsome set, in full-leather 'Saint Dunstan Binding' (stamped thus on spines). An elaborately decorated style of binding, variously attributed to Samuel Mearn, of Charles II's court, or to Louis Douceur, of Louis XV's court. Leather is of various colors but spine decorations are identical; decorations on the covers vary from volume to volume and most have two or three colors, in imitation of leather inlay (which this is not). Overall, good only (scars and darkening to front pastedown of each volume from removed bookplate; boards bowed; edges bumped and worn; corners and spine ends worn; spines discolored and faded; gilt darkened). Gilt on top edges of volumes XII-XX waterstained, spotted, and darkened from water leak. Front hinges of volumes I, IV, XIII, and XIX are starting, v.I starting at p. vi-vii as well. Spines of volumes V-VII, X-XIV, and XV-XVI heavily faded; spines of v.III, IV, XVII, and XVIII lightly faded; the very edges of the boards for v.X-XIV faded. Spine tail of v.V and VI chipped; spine head of v.XII chipped at top; small tear to spine head of v.VIII. Volumes VI, VII, and XV have small scars on the spines; very edges of v.V and VI worn to boards in places; two gouges to front board of v.XV; v.XVI has splatter stains on spine; v.XIX has a scratch on rear board. The letter 'L' is carved into gilt on top edge of v.VI All plates are present and represent some very fine work; in addition to the inimitable Dwiggins, there are many plates by the great Herman Roundtree and additional contributions by Frederick Morgan, Francis Vaux Wilson, and George Alfred Williams. This set will cost extra to ship as we will take special care in wrapping these delicate volumes and it will require several boxes.

A mixed set (as usual) of the British edition; all are uniformly bound in green cloth with gilt 'TH' monogram on cover, which indicates that vols. 1 & 2 were remaindered copies rebound to be issued as a set after the 3rd volume was published. Vol. 1 is the 2nd printing, 1904 (the 1st is very rare), in good-only condition; the ffep is torn out, and the blank page after it torn about halfway down at the hinge. Sm. bookplate on front pastedown (in all 3 vols.); spine also sunned to brown. Vol. 2, 1906, is apparently 1st edition but a reissue with the new binding and a half-title page. Good+ condition; spine ends and corners bumped; crack starting at last page; cracked at pp128, 209 and 273; unsunned. Vol. 3 is the 1st edition, 1908. It is in fair condition as book is broken at half-title page (only a few threads of fabric attach the board to the textblock at the half-title page), sunned spine that has a short tear at head, pp354-355 darkened, cracked at p1.

Full-leather bindings quite damaged, the spines are heavily chipped, worn and cracked with the title-pieces chipped off except for a portion of v7; leather rubbed and worn, corners worn to boards; broken throughout due to spine cracks. Description:
The books in this multi-volume set are in very good condition. There is almost no wear on all three books in this set. The front, back, spine and cover boards are in very good condition as well as the edges. There is minor bumping on the corners of all three books. The previous owners name is written on the inside of the front cover boards of all three books. The pages of all three books are tanned and yellowed but clear of any markings. This multi-volume set contains the complete plays of Eugene O'Neill.
