Dutton's Knickerbocker Press, and then distributed at Charles Scribner's Sons new flagship offices and bookstore opened in the Spring of 1813 on New York's Fifth Avenue. Otherwise, clean, tight and with light age-toning. **The Note of Thompson's Literary Executor and editor W.M. (Wilfred Meynell) to the front matter identifies this edition being produced posthumously, and claims to be "definitive." Both Meynell and his wife , the poet and suffragist Alice Meynell encouraged the career of the Author, Francis Thompson (1859-1907) through tough times which found the poet sometimes living rough and selling matches. Bouts of ill health were brought on by addiction to opium. However, the poet's work, when not disabled, and supported by well-meaning benefactors such as the Meynells, earned high praise with contemporary poets such as Robert Browning and Coventry Patmore. This volume contains, then some the most famous of his works, including the mystic Christian ode "The Hound of Heaven," and "Dream Tryst," as well as a whole volume of his essays of literary criticism, including "Paganism Old and New," and what is said to be his finest work of this kind, his essay on "Shelley." The work was first published in periodicals such as The Meynell's journal "Merry England," but also in the magazines "Atheneum" and " The Academy." OCLC 1713137. . American printing of Meynell's "Definitive Edition". Hard Cover. Very Good .
