London: A. Millar, 1764 . Leather. Good. 8.5" by 6". Not Stated. The very scarce complete eight volume second edition of English novelist Henry Fielding's collected works. Fielding's first collected edition appeared earlier in the same year, in four volumes rather than eight. With an engraved portrait frontispiece to volume I.A very scarce mid eighteenth century of the important English novelist's works, including his best known literary accomplishments, the comic novel 'Tom Jones', and the sentimental novel 'Amelia'. Featuring also a biographical account of the life of Fielding.Published only ten years after Fielding's death.ESTC reference T89840The title pages to volumes V and VI omit the words "Second Edition", as called for.A smart and scarce early edition of Fielding's works. In full calf bindings, with gilt detailing to spines. Small losses at back strip heads and tails, most significantly to volumes V and Vi. Lacking two spine labels, with a further six featuring significant losses. Volume I joints starting, with front board tenderly held by one cord only, and rear board holding firm. Remaining joints - with the exception of the rear of volume VIII - all starting, and firmly held. Front free endpaper of volume I detached and loosely inserted. Internally, firmly bound. Pages lightly age toned due to paper type, but otherwise generally clean and bright, with only the odd spot. Good
