London: Jacob Tonson, 1741. Hardcover. Good +. The Third Edition: With a Compleat Index." 4 volumes: frontispiece portrait of the author in vol. 1, 6 leaves of engravings of medals; 26 cm. Contemporary full tree calf with seven spine compartments between triple gilt rules. Red leather label in second compartments with gilt-tooled title "Addison's Works." Green leather label in fifth compartments with gilt-tooled volume number. Woodcut headpieces, initials, and tailpieces. Armorial bookplate of Arthur Irwin Kelly with Kelly motto "Turris Fortis mihi Deus" on each front fixed endpaper. Former owner's name written at head of title page of vol. 1. In Good Condition: edges rubbed; joints weak, with old interior repairs; vol. 2 back board detached but present; some loss to spine labels, primarily to lower volume number labels; dampstain in upper corner of frontispiece; hole at lower edge of vol. 1 title page; otherwise, clean and bright.
