About This Item

New York: Harper & Brothers, 1898. Published between 1898 and 1903, this handsome set includes ALL 13 volumes that comprise Thackeray's complete works and are listed below. The books are in Very Good+ condition (click on photo) and are bound in dark blue cloth, with decorative front and rear panels, gilt spine lettering, and top-edge gilt. The books show some light shelf wear; several volumes have rubbing at the spine tips. The books are firmly bound, with clean, bright text pages. A number of volumes have uncut pages and were apparently never read. Each volume includes a frontis illustration with tissue guards, and other illustrations, full-page and vignette, throughout text. With the exception of some portraits of Thackeray, the drawings are the delightful, original work of the author himself. The Biographical Edition was edited by Thackeray's daughter, Anne Thackeray Ritchie. The books are clean with no signatures of former owners. While most standard Harper-published Thackeray sets contain 26 volumes, this set contains all the same material but simply doubles the size of each volume. The contents are as follows: 1. Vanity Fair; 2. Pendennis; 3. Yellow Plush Papers, etc.; 4. Barry Lyndon, etc.; 5. Sketch Books; 6. Contributions to Punch, etc.; 7. Henry Edmond, etc.; 8. The Newcomes; 9. Chritmas Books, etc.; 10. The Virginians; 11. The Adventures of Philip, etc.; 12 Denis Duval, etc.; and 13. Miscellanies. These uniform books were published between 1898 and 1903. Domestic Media Mail shipping will be adjusted following initial order to total $16.00. . Hard Cover. Very Good+/No Jacket. Illus. by Thackeray, William Makepeace. 8vo - over 7¾" - 9¾" tall.
