The set is in overall very good condition. Each volume was carefully gone through - internally the volumes are in terrific shape with no condition issues found; the pages are clean with no writing, stains, tears or foxing found. Most volumes have some wear to either the corners, spine heads and/or the perimeter of the boards. The top-left corner of the back cover of "Ballads" is dented with a 1/4" tear at the outer edge. "Miscellaneous Contributions to Punch" has a diagonal tear at the lower-right corner of the front cover. The ribbon page marker of "Catherine" is present but detached. All volumes are tightly bound with no loose pages. Bright gilt lettering and decorations to the spine. Gilt top edges.

St. Ives: Being The Adventures of a French Prisoner in England (1897) is an unfinished novel by Robert Louis Stevenson. It was completed in 1898 by Arthur Quiller-Couch. Unable to write, Stevenson dictated thirty chapters of the novel to his stepdaughter as a diversion from his debilitating illness. He alternated dictating St. Ives and The Weir of Hermiston but gradually lost interest in the former. The plot concerns the adventures of the dashing Capitaine Jacques St. Ives, a Napoleonic soldier, after his capture by the British. Condition: Corners bumped and rubbed, shelf wear, hinges and spine heal moderately rubbed, previous owner's name on front end paper else a very good copy.
