Top edge dusty; fine in a rubbed, price-clipped dust jacket, worn at splitting joints, chipped at spine-ends, and with a sizeable triangular piece missing from rear panel.. 8vo, 514pp; black cloth. Ornitz's second book, following his successful, albeit anonymous, debut with "Haunch, Paunch and Jowl", added the author's name and in anticipation of repeated popular success had two printings prior to publication. The year after this book appeared, he would move to Hollywood an embark on a prolific career as a screenwriter, derailed in the 1950s when he was among the "Hollywood Ten" blacklisted for their political views.
