Boards are heavily rubbed. Front hinge is separating, at the frontispiece. Foxing to prelims & last page. Printed boards with red, white and blue upper board with gilt titles and figure of a redcoat of the 1890s to the bottom corner, six-pointed star and 'SR' to lower board. Photographic frontis & black & white woodblock illustrations. Sarah Robinson, a temperance activist, established institutes for the use of soldiers and sailors. This particular volume of her writings was only available through the first of these in Portsmouth.
