First UK Edition, published in two years after the 1969 American Edition. In the original unclipped dustwrapper. 'Yellow Back Radio Broke-Down' is Ishmael Reed's satirical take on the Western novel. It tells the story of an African-American cowboy who practices the Neohoodoo religion and is in a constant struggle against established religion as well as cultural oppression. This novel was an important model for the 1974 satirical western film 'Blazing Saddles'. Ishmael Reed is an American poet, essayist, and writer who is known for his satirical works that challenge American political culture. His most well-known work is 'Mumbo Jumbo', which has remained in print for forty-five years since its first publication. Collated, complete.  In the original publisher's cloth binding, in the original unclipped dustwrapper. Externally, excellent with no noticeable faults. Dust wrapper is also in an excellent condition, with a light amount of edgewear around the spine. Synopsis

Yellow Back Radio Broke-Down, by the African-American writer Ishmael Reed, is a satirical take on the traditional Western. It is Ishmael Reed's second novel, following The Freelance Pallbearers, and was first published in 1969. It tells the story of the Loop Garoo Kid, an African-American cowboy who practices the religion of Neohoodooism, and describes his struggle against established religion and cultural oppression.
