About This Item

This is a bound volume of antique sheet music - "Zephyrs from Newport - A Collection of Dances as Performed by the Germania Musical Society" arranged for piano by F.B. Helmsmuller. 1855; Oliver Ditson; Boston. Some of the songs have illustrated front covers. The front cover of "Les Caledonians" features a wonderful front cover illustration in color. The front cover of "Les Perles du Theatre" is in color. There are 28 songs in all. The "Germania Musical Society" was an orchestra comprised of musicians who had emigrated from Germany that performed in the United States in the mid-19th century. This sheet music collection is from their performance in Newport, Rhode Island.

Condition:
The leather has worn at the cover corners, and at various places along the inner edges of the covers. The spine is entirely missing. Tight binding with no cracks and no loose pages. Both covers are firmly attached. Consistent light foxing to sheets throughout, though an occasional sheet does have heavier foxing. Name written in old pencil handwriting at the top of the title page. The upper-outer corner of the "Les Perles du Theatre" back cover has torn away. A few front covers have initials written in ink. A couple random pages have white repair tape over tears. There is old handwriting in pen at the top of the "Les Caledonians" front cover. A few pages have been removed before the "Traviata Quadrille" sheet music. Overall the volume is in Fair condition due to the missing spine.
