Cooper; Sharp; Clint; De Wilde; Waldeck. 4to, library rebound in green cloth boards with gilt titles on spine and library name on cover. 72pp with frontispiece and 19 other plates. Contains 20 engraved portraits of actors in character by Cooper alongside biographies of the actors. As with other copies of this scarce volume, the frontis is of Mr Kean, rather than Mrs Siddons as originally intended. Some discolouration to the edges of the plates and foxing on text pages. Please see pictures. Ex reference library with stamps to the reverse of plates, single stamp on endpapers, first and last page. Pictorial bookplate on front pastedown. Handwritten number on reverse of title page. No other obvious library markings.

The publisher intended the plate of Mrs. Siddons to be bound as the frontispiece, but here the plate of Mr. Kean was bound as the frontispiece and that of Siddons before the text about her. Contains 20 engraved portraits by R. Cooper of famous contemporary actors and dancers, including Sarah Siddons as Lady Macbeth, Edmund Kean as Richard III, Samuel Simmonds as Baron Munchausen, dancers Lisa Noblet, Felicite Hullin, and Etienne Le Blond, opera singer Giuseppe de Begnis, and Henry Gattie, Maria Theresa Bland, Sarah Booth, Frances Copeland, and Charles Young. The plates have not been hand-colored. In Good+ Condition: front board and frontispiece are detached but present; lacking leather over spine; foxing, primarily in margins of plates; otherwise, clean and solid.

Twenty fine hand-coloured portraits of famous contemporary actors and actresses, (after paintings by Sharp, Clint, De Wilde, Waldeck, and others). These include Cooper, Copeland, De Begnis, Mm. Bland, S. Booth, Dowton, Fitzwilliam, Gattie, Harley, Hullin, Kean, Knight, Le Blond, Noblet, Mrs. Siddons, Simmonds, G. Smith, Smithson, Wilkinson and Young. Each portrait is accompanied by a short biographical notice. Daniel Terry was an actor and friend of Sir Walter Scott, many of whose novels he adapted for the stage.
