The author, Joseph Warren Watson apparently died very early in life, at age 23, after starting a promising career as a poet, writing and publishing poems in several regional magazines. Here's a portion of his obituary: "hough he loved to communicate brief catches of poetry to contribute to the amusement of gay and festive circles, he rarely entered them himself, but seemed to live as if profoundly conscious of his early death.
